چکیده

We introduce a novel subgradient optimization-based framework for iterative peak-to-average power ratio (PAR) reduction for multicarrier systems, such as wireless orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and wireline discrete multitone (DMT) very high-speed digital subscriber line (DMT-VDSL) systems. The proposed approach uses reserved or unused tones to minimize the peak magnitude of the DMT symbol vector where these tone values are iteratively updated through a subgradient search. The algorithms obtained through this framework have very simple update rules, and therefore, low computational complexities in general. Since the approach is based on the direct update of some frequency domain parameters, the power spectral density (PSD) level constraints that exist in the communications standards can easily be incorporated into the algorithms. This feature also enables simple compensation for the effects of transmit filter on PAR. Furthermore, we can locate the Active Set PAR reduction method for real baseband signals as a special case of the subgradient approach and provide its natural extension to handle complex baseband DMT signals. In addition to the peak level cost function, we also introduce the K-peak energy cost function which is also used to develop effective subgradient algorithms as illustrated by the simulation examples. r 2006 Elsevier B.V. Peak and Power Reduction in Multicarrier Communication Systems

Broadband multicarrier communication suffers from a large signal span, causing problems in both wireless and wireline systems. This is commonly referred to as a high peak to average ratio (PAR), and leads to a high power consumption, which is an important limitation inmany communication systems. This thesis puts focus on PAR reduction for wireline communication systems, in particular for the mu...

Joint Optimization of PAR Reduction and Digital Predistortion for Wireless LAN Applications

Two closely related non-linear distortions introduced in a multicarrier modulation based wireless local area network (LAN) transmitter are clipping due to high peakto-average-power-ratio (PAR) and saturation due to nonlinear power amplifiers. Various PAR reduction and RF nonlinearity compensation schemes can be found in literature and implemented in realtime systems to tackle them. Although the...

A low-complexity PAR reduction method for WFMT System

This paper discusses a simple method of Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAR) reduction developed for system with WFMT modulation. The novel Wavelet based Filtered Multi-Tone (WFMT) modulation was proposed as an alternative of the Discrete Multi-tone line code for xDSL system and represents future extending of OFDM/ DMT technologies. Because of multicarrier nature of WFMT modulation, it is well sui...

Peak to Average Power Ratio Reduction of Multicarrier Transmission Systems Using Electromagnetism-like Method

In this paper, a reduced-complexity partial transmit sequences (PTS) scheme is proposed to resolve the intrinsic high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) problem of multi-carrier transmission systems signal with low computational complexity. The conventional PTS technique is highly successful in PAPR reduction for multi-carrier transmission systems signals, but the considerable computational com...

Supervised Exponential Family Principal Component Analysis via Convex Optimization

Recently, supervised dimensionality reduction has been gaining attention, owing to the realization that data labels are often available and indicate important underlying structure in the data. In this paper, we present a novel convex supervised dimensionality reduction approach based on exponential family PCA, which is able to avoid the local optima of typical EM learning. Moreover, by introduc...
